Ron Täubert and the colour white |

Colour is a subjective sensory im-pression. It is thus wrong to say that something is a certain colour, as if the colour were glued to the observed object. Of course, this is something that you can’t know intuitively. Imagine you frequent a tanning salon to get a nice golden hue so that people will think you look good and like you. After a few visits to the tanning spa, you achieve that healthy golden glow you wanted. Now you expect people to come up to you and say something like: “Hey Ron, old boy! Hey, you look great! Have you been on holiday? Man, Ron! You’re oozing vitality, the very picture of a man!” But say, instead, you meet an old friend and he greets you in the following way: “Mr. Täubert? Ron Täubert? The artist? Hey, what on Earth’s the matter with you, you look terrible! Are you OK? Can I help you somehow? Should I call a doctor? You’re green all over!” Wait a minute, you think to yourself, what was that all about? What does he mean by “green”? I’m tan all over! Yes, that’s the problem. You’re not, in fact, tan. Because the guy talking to you is saying you look sickly and sallow. So what happens if someone else comes up to you and says you’re pale? Or blue? Or that you have yellow and red stripes? Now you’re totally confused! And thus we arrive at the point where we can delve into the world of Ron Täubert – the artist and the pioneering mind. |
